Tshwane South TVET College proudly hosted its inaugural Employer Open Day at the Pretoria West Campus, marking a significant milestone in fostering collaboration between the college and local industries. This event underscored the institution’s commitment to enhancing educational offerings while simultaneously addressing the evolving needs of the job market.
The primary objectives of the Employer Open Day were twofold: to promote the diverse range of courses offered by the college and to cultivate meaningful relationships with various employers. By showcasing its academic programs, the college aimed to illustrate how its curriculum can directly benefit industries and align with their requirements.
Acting Principal Mr. GD Mnisi highlighted the college's dedication to bridging the gap between education and industry. In his address, he stated, “The college has established trade test centres and offers trade test preparations, inviting industry partners to utilise these services, which are available to more than just our students.” He emphasised the college's investment in high-tech machinery and state-of-the-art workshops designed to bolster production capabilities across various sectors. “Together, we can create a dynamic partnership that levels the playing field and benefits the college, our students, individuals, and the industry,” he concluded.
The event featured an inspiring keynote speech from Mr. P. Mashele, Regional Manager for Gauteng and the Free State Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). He emphasized the crucial role of partnerships in shaping the future workforce of South Africa. “This event is not just a celebration of our accomplishments but a powerful reminder of the importance of collaboration between TVET institutions and industries,” Mr. Mashele remarked. “Together, we are building a bridge to a brighter, more skilled future.”
Deputy Principal Academic Ms. N Mathye further elaborated on the significance of connecting students with employers at the time of registration. “The successful implementation of our occupational programs requires that all learners are linked with employers from the outset. This connection is vital in ensuring our students are not only prepared for the industry but also aware of the expectations that await them,” she explained. Ms. Mathye expressed her belief that this initiative would enrich learners’ educational experiences and strengthen the ties between the college and the industry.
Mr. Raphael, a representative from Highveld Industrial Park in Witbank, Mpumalanga, expressed his enthusiasm after attending the Employer Open Day, highlighting the exceptional quality of the facilities and workshops. “The facilities and workshops are world class, and I am also impressed with the number of females trained here,” he remarked, emphasizing the institution's commitment to inclusivity and excellence in training. He further added, “I can confidently say for anyone looking for apprentices, this is the place to go,” reinforcing the notion that this training centre not only meets industry standards but also fosters a diverse and skilled workforce ready to meet the demands of the job market. Mr. Raphael’s endorsement underscores the significance of such initiatives in shaping the future of apprenticeships and empowering individuals across various sectors.
The Employer Open Day stands as a testament to Tshwane South TVET College’s proactive approach to education and its unwavering commitment to producing a skilled workforce ready to meet the challenges of today’s economy. As the college continues to nurture these essential relationships, it paves the way for a collaborative environment where students and employers can thrive together.
